Obere Neustadt (Upper New Town)
Name for a current new development area above the Alaunpark in the border area between Äußere Neustadt and Albertstadt. According to the provider, “high-quality townhouses, stacked houses, townhouses” will be built, in other words, condominiums in multi-story residential buildings, and private homes primarily in terraced or group houses. The complex includes a shopping area on the ground floor, which includes, among other things, a large organic food market. The project will be expanded to include a third construction phase in the next few years. Together with the already completed residential development and children's facilities around the Garrison Church as well as court and administrative buildings, mainly from the post-reunification period, an entire district close to the city center is being created here. A special advantage is the quiet apartment very close to the trendy district Äußere Neustadt. The area is being designed by the Klettarchitekten office. |
Oberer Hecht, is the name given to the newer part of the Hechtviertel built in the 1920s. It essentially consists of a settlement built between 1924 and 1929 according to plans by Otto Schubert by the Small Housing and Homestead Association, now part of the Saxon Housing Cooperative. From the hechtstrasse, which runs south of the St.Pauli-Friedhof and a park, Bärwalder Strasse leads into the residential area into it. These two axes and Niederauer Platz are delimited by closed construction with typical 2 to 4-room apartments. Emphasized staircases, segmented arched loggias, bay windows and gate passages convey a dignified atmosphere. The park-like residential courtyard between Hecht- and Niederauer may be the largest in the city. |

ODC, Otto-Dix-Center,
shopping-centre in Strehlen, on the border to Reick: large grocery market and electronic dealer, furnitures and smaller shops.
The ODC has a very high vacancy rate and is currently not very attractive. There is apparently a lack of buyers from the residential area on Reicker Strasse that was demolished a few years ago. |
Offizierskasino, The officers' mess of the former Royal Saxon Infantry Regiment No. 177 was located on Marienallee on a small hill on the grounds of the Saxon Cadet Institute. It was built in 1903 in the representative villa style of the turn of the century. Since 1956 it served as an officers' mess for the NVA troops. The casino was used primarily by staff officers of the 7th Armored Division. It was extensively renovated in the 1990s and today belongs to the grounds of the Army Officer School of the Bundeswehr. |
Offizierschule des Heeres (OSH) / Officer school of the army, the army school in the Albertstadt was opened in 1998 after a three years construction period and is the central training centre for the officers of the army. Three of the former plants of the more than 100 years old Barracks town were included into the army school in an architecturally successfull way: the institute for cadets, the Friedrich August barracks as well as the garrison military hospital. Until the fall of the Wall, the command staff of the NVA's 7th Panzer Division was stationed in part of the building. |

Orangerie,
two buildings were known under this name:
1. the former Orangerie "An der Herzogin Garten" (), built in 1841 by Otto von Wolframsdorf, was only partially recognisable as a ruin (street frontage to Ostra-Allee) from its destruction in the Second World War until recently. It was rebuilt in 2016/19 as a residential building, largely true to the original exterior, but a desired use for art and/or gastronomy could not be realised for economic reasons. () The newly renovated orangery garden is open to the public during the day. 2. Orangerie in the castles's park Pillnitz. (). |

Ortskrankenkasse ("Local health insurance company"),
the AOK's current administrative building was built in 1912/13 at Sternplatz as a reinforced concrete structure. It is an example of the monumental style within reform building architecture. The sculptural jewelry is remarkable. Two large figures made of tuff stone flank the main portal on both sides: a breastfeeding mother and a worker, between both doors there is a larger than life-sized atlas figure. All three figures come from Selmar Werner, while the figures on the fourth floor are from Georg Türke: worker, carpenter, baker, bricklayer, locksmith, blacksmith, stonemason and carpenter.
The area could not be developed in its entirety at the time, as residential houses had already stood on Josephinenstrasse since 1650. It was not until 1996 to 1998 that a modern new building was added to replace these houses that were destroyed in 1945. |
